About this site
Fourth Rock Stables' Rocky Mountain Horses are the smoothest trail buddies around.

With close to sixty years of life in the Sandhills, I call this home: the region, culture, vernacular, the whole mess of beans, even the buggy ones.

I worked for Sandhills Sentinel, beginning as an intern, loved it, and through a journalistic perspective, learned pole beans, like people, climb up trellises, run over mulch piles, and crowd into the tomato rows, making for good stories. Bush beans are too simple for a good story because they are too predictable. Pole beans, on the other hand, you never know where they will lead until you follow them and learn their stories.

Let's explore this news garden together.

Sandhills News invites you to share your stories in exchange for free advertising.

This free online news source publishes news provided by citizen journalists, business owners, town leaders, teachers, healers, students, and people just like you.

Of course, we welcome press releases from town and county officials, civic clubs, churches, and schools.

Book reviews are news, too. Review guidelines on the submission's page.

Selected news is exchanged for free advertising. See requirements and restrictions on the submissions page. Free advertising remains active for two weeks.

Paid advertising has flexible rates and timelines. Email Stephanie Sellers for details. Sandhillsnewseditor@gmail.com

Bear in mind, Sandhills News focuses on the hometown feel in Moore County, Lee County, and Harnett County, North Carolina. Submissions from visitors are allowed when they focus on a topic within one of these three counties. We love company here in the south!

Brief Guidelines:

Submit a 200-word article, which may be accompanied by a 2-minute or less video Not all videos will be transmittable and some will be on the Facebook page with the story. Include an image of the topic or your headshot. Type only in the email body. Do not send attachments.

Submissions will be reviewed and accepted submissions will be edited.

This is an ideal platform for English teachers. (I know because I am one.) Motivate students to write news or book reviews for publication in exchange for freely advertising their club or sport event.

Acceptable submissions include social news, personal stories, golf, fishing, boating, and equestrian news, concerns about the region, such as growth, news about new happenings, such as new businesses and events, congratulatory news, and news about Moore, Lee, and Harnett Counties. Save the sale stories for your free advertising.

Submissions with accusations and unsavory language are not acceptable.

Minors need parental or guardian consent.

Include verification of your full legal name, name of organization, email, and phone number. The personal information will not be shared or sold. It is for verification of authentication only. You will be contacted when your story is accepted to verify the story.

For your free advertising in exchange for news, include the basics: date (if applicable), location, contact information, and what makes you unique. We will format and edit to fit our standards. All submissions, video, and images are property of Sandhills News and cannot be shared in any manner except from Sandhills News, unless you have written consent.

Are you a journalist or enthusiast? Earn a byline with a submission of a covered town or county meeting, or official event in exchange for advertising your credentials during a job search, or advertise your published book, or topic of your choice.

We do not want accident reports unless you are with the fire department, emergency services, or law enforcement. It is too dangerous for citizens to walk up on accident scenes. Do not do it.

Example of an advertising submission:

The Bait Place offers buy-one-get-one free every Friday on Liar’s Lures. Return on Monday with your photo of the big catch, post it on our board, and earn a point toward the fishing rod giveaway. Ten points earn a rod. Tell ‘em Steve sent you! 123 Dirt Road, Southern Pines. 910-979- 9999, 7 a.m.-6 p.m.

Want to be interviewed? Great! Have your friend interview you and email the story.

We want to know about your vacation in the Sandhills.

We want to know about your service in the military.

We want to know about your neighborhood cleanup.

We want to know about your clubs, service, school events, and all the little things that make life worthwhile.

We want to know about your dedication and service to organizations, including church and family. That’s just how small-town minded we are at Sandhills News. Because we know community begins with the heart.

I need to go pick tomatoes before the crows peck them again today.

Later,
